Martha Byanyima

I am a Food Technologist, with over 25 years work experience in the field of food safety and industry development. I have worked on policy/regulatory issues as well as on food safety systems in a wide range of food sectors in East and Southern Africa; supporting government regulatory agencies and processing facilities. Currently, I work with the Common Market for East and Southern Africa; as the lead expert on sanitary and sanitary matters; bringing my expertise on food safety and SPS matters in general, into the African integration agenda. My role is to ensure SPS regulatory systems are simplified/harmonized to facilitate smooth intra-regional and global trade whilst ensuring the protection of human, plant and animal health from imminent and emerging risks. I have private interests in cattle ranching, milk and beef supply chains, supporting small holder beef and dairy producers on value addition, food safety and quality management.
